Although, in Poland the tradition of writing them is much shorter, it dates back as far as to the turn of 16th and 17th centuries. The 19th century was the beginning of new guidebooks created according to modern criteria, i.e. not only did they include description of a given place, but also some practical information and suggested sightseeing routes.
