Celem artykułu było poznanie słoweńskiego punktu widzenia na szkolnictwo galicyjskie, w kontekście starań tego narodu o zachowanie i pielęgnowanie własnej tożsamości narodowej, na podstawie doniesień z Galicji w najstarszym słoweńskim czasopiśmie pedagogicznym „Popotnik”. Galicja była obiektem stałego zainteresowania „Popotnika”, odnotowano 51 relacji. Wyodrębnione zostały 4 główne problemy wyłaniające się z owych doniesień: stan oświaty w Galicji, sytuacja nauczycielstwa, stosunki narodowościowe – relacje polsko-rusińskie (ukraińskie) oraz patriotyzm Polaków. Z ich analizy wynika, iż stosunek Słoweńców do Polaków był ambiwalentny – z jednej strony doceniali rozwój szkolnictwa i patriotyzm, z drugiej odnosili się krytycznie do analfabetyzmu, zaniedbania spraw nauczycielstwa ludowego, ograniczania rozwoju szkół ruskojęzycznych oraz nieprzystąpienia do ruchu panslawistycznego. Redakcja dostrzegała analogie sytuacji szkolnictwa słoweńskiego, uciskanego przez administrację niemiecką, do sytuacji szkolnictwa ukraińskiego w Galicji, ale także Polaków w zaborze pruskim.

The aim of the article was to learn about the Slovenian perspective on Galician education in the context of this nation’s efforts to preserve and nurture its national identity, based on reports from Galicia in the oldest Slovenian educational magazine, Popotnik. Galicia was a subject of constant interest for Popotnik, with 51 reports recorded. Four main issues emerging from these reports were identified: the state of education in Galicia, the situation of teachers, ethnic relations – Polish-Rusyn (Ukrainian) relations, and Polish patriotism. Their analysis shows that the attitude of Slovenians towards Poles was ambivalent – on the one hand, they appreciated the development of education and patriotism, on the other hand, they were critical of illiteracy, neglect of folk teachers, restrictions on the development of Ruthenian-language schools and failure to join the Pan-Slavic movement. The editorial staff saw analogies between the situation of Slovenian education, oppressed by the German administration, and the situation of Ukrainian education in Galicia, but also of Poles in the Prussian partition.
