Autorka omówiła formy organizacyjne teatrów międzywojennych i ich sposób funkcjonowania na ówczesnym rynku, repertuar placówek oraz produkcję przedstawień. Metafory zaczerpnięte z dyskursu ekonomicznego i zarządzania przedsiębiorstwem, popularnością cieszył się wówczas fordyzm, definiowały teatr jako przedsiębiorstwo, a nawet fabrykę. Przeciwstawiali się temu kolejni reformatorzy. Krytycy doceniali znaczenie teatralnego wolnego rynku. Wiedzieli, że konkurencja okazuje się pożyteczna dla systemu, ponieważ stymuluje aktywność. Dostrzegali jednak szereg grup nacisku, które próbowały zreorganizować rynek w sposób dla siebie korzystny. Parafrazując słynne stwierdzenie Derridy: „nikt nie jest tak wolny, by mógł czytać, jak chce”, można by stwierdzić, że nie ma tak wolnego rynku, który samoczynnie oparłby się próbom budowania sojuszy i przejęcia władzy. To system sprzecznych napięć determinowany przez szereg czynników, a wolny rynek nieobwarowany żadnymi ograniczeniami prowadzi do działań mających na celu wyeliminowanie konkurencji, by zapewnić sobie sukces.

The authoress discussed the organisational forms of interwar theatres and the method of their functioning in the contemporary market, taking into account their repertoire and also the method of performing plays. The metaphors were borrowed from economic discourse and enterprise management. At that time, Fordism enjoyed popularity and the theatre was defined as an enterprise, or even as a factory; that attitude was opposed by successive reformers.Critics appreciated the significance of the free market of theatres. They knew that competition stimulates activity, and, therefore, is useful for the system. However, they noticed the presence of a number of pressure groups which attempted to reorganise the market in a way which was profitable for them. Paraphrasing a famous statement by Derrida: “no one is free enough to be able to read as they please”, it might be stated that there is no market free enough to be able to resist attempts to form alliances and take over power unaided. It is a system of contradictory tensions determined by a number of factors, and a free market not constrained by any limits results in actions aimed at eliminating the competition so as to ensure one’s own success. The authoress presented several of the dangers and postulates of interwar criticism, and how to reform and stimulate the theatrical market.
