[Abstract = %22In reflection concerning the study of literature%2C both categories%2C memory and forgiveness%2C are quite frequently contrasted. Literature%2C which activates memory%2C is perceived as a tool of settling the past. In this perspective%2C it takes the position opposite to that of forgiveness%2C which requires that %27one does not seek redress%27. Using the example of the film bearing the title of The Tale%2C the author attempts to consider the conflict between a writer%27s duty to remember and the Christian appeal for forgiving. If literature is the reservoir of memory%2C the very act of writing is purifying%2C and involves leaving the limits of own existence towards another human being%2C namely a reader. Reaching beyond the limits of own ego is not unlike the attitude of forgiveness%2C which requires reaching beyond the borders of personal pain.%22]
